Job Opportunities

There are always opportunities for projects in our group for Bachelor's and Master's thesis. Please contact Dr. Alexander Mook for more information.

The following opportunities for Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers are open:

Ph.D. Position in Spin-Lattice Coupled Spintronics (Theory)

We are pleased to announce the opening of a Ph.D. position in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at the Institute of Physics of the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz working on spin-lattice coupling induced phenomena in spintronics supported by the SFB/TRR 173 SPIN+X. The appointment involves research in the independent Emmy Noether Research Group of Dr. Alexander Mook and in the SFB/TRR 173 SPIN+X in direct collaboration with the experimental research partners at the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau.

The Mook group conducts research in magnetism, spintronics, magnonics, topological materials, transport in quantum materials, and general theoretical condensed matter physics. There are strong connections with the Interdisciplinary Spintronics Research (INSPIRE) group led by Prof. Sinova and the research environment at JGU is further bolstered by the Spin Phenomena Interdisciplinary Center (SPICE).

We are looking for a candidate with a background in theoretical techniques in condensed matter and materials theory. Candidates interested and/or experienced in magnetization dynamics, spin dynamics simulations, and/or spin-lattice coupling, and/or transport theory are highly suited for this opportunity. The prospective group member must hold a M.Sc. or equivalent diploma.

This research is related to Spin+X project B13 Spin+Torque: Spin-orbit dynamics in magnetic hybrids. This project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in the framework of the collaborative research unit Spin+X. The Ph.D. candidate will be employed for 3 years (elongation possible).

Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz is an equal opportunity, affirmative actions employer in compliance with German disability laws. Women and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The position is open immediately. Review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants should send

- a one-page motivation letter,
- a full curriculum vitae, and
- a list of publications,

in a single file to amook[at]uni-mainz.de and arrange for two letters of recommendation. When sending applications please use the subject line "Spin+X Ph.D. position application".
